CAPRI’S 7 WONDERS PART II: PASSETIELLO TRAIL
Beauty is no absolute and objective concept. Still, some things exist whose beauty cannot be questioned. This is what some philosopher might call the ineffable. That is to say, those spectacles nature always has to offer that take your breath away. One of these certainly is the breathtaking view to enjoy from Capri’s highest peak, Mount Solaro, which you can reach from adventurous ‘Passetiello’ trail.
That’s the second wonder of our list.
Passetiello was for long long time the only existing way, along with Scala Fenicia, to reach Anacapri (the upper part of the island) from Capri. The first road connecting the two towns was built during the first half of the XX century. Starting at the junction between the road to the port, Marina Piccola and Anacapri, Passetiello trail does lead you into the wild. After a while it turns into a mountain path and requires some skills. Endurance, first and above all. You will find yourself hiking for up to 3 hours. There is not so much panorama to look at during the climb. You can barely see the sky, as the sight is blocked by trees. Then, all of a sudden, as you pass through a narrow passage, the most stunning view opens up in front of your eyes. The Mediterranean Sea, blue waters stretching out to Sicily, the whole island at your feet.
But it’s not finished yet. Climb for half an hour at least on a slope so steep you need to proceed zig-zagging, and a magnificent valley discloses. It is called Cetrella valley. Now you can sit down and relax, and let your eyes feast on such a spectacle. Now it’s easier. A flat walk will lead you to Mount Solaro, from where you will admire the beauty of the Gulf of Naples. Enjoy!!!
